Hallow Knight Map Overview

The Abyss, Depths

The Abyss is the lowest area in Hallownest, located below Ancient Basin. It is the place of origin of the Void, a substance found at the bottom of the Abyss.

Far down below us, beneath the kingdom, the air grows stiller and a sense of emptiness pervades. Can life flourish down there?

Ancient Basin is a desolate area which is positioned below the Royal Waterways. It is mostly devoid of life except for some severely Infected lifeforms.

Did you know the caverns continue even below the capital? Few have ventured that deep so the details are scant. Those who made it back told of impossibly old structures and roads formed as though the rock itself possessed a will.

City of Tears, Fountain

The City of Tears is the capital city of Hallownest which is located in the centre of the kingdom. It is covered in perpetual rainfall that originates from the ceiling above. Its original name was lost to history.

The city looks to be built into an enormous cavern, and the rain pours down from cracks in the stone above. There must be a lot of water up there somewhere.

The Colosseum of Fools is an area located at the top of Kingdom's Edge. It contains an arena where the Knight may participate in three Trials in which they battle waves of enemies.

Another warrior finds their way to our fair Colosseum. Ours is the final destination for all seeking trials of intense and deadly combat.

Crystal Peak, Entrance

Crystal Peak is a huge glittering mountain located east of Dirtmouth. Mines were carved into the peak to obtain the area's precious crystals.

There is some strange power hidden in the crystals that grow up there in the peaks. They gleam and glow in the darkness, a bright point of searing heat in each one. They sing too, if you listen. Very softly...

Deepnest, Entrance

Deepnest is an area hidden deep in the southwest corner of Hallownest, crawling with creatures of all shapes and sizes.

This whole area swarms with deadly critters, biting, burning, scratching types. I'd thought to test my strength against them. Now that bravado has left me and all I feel is tired and sore.

Dirtmouth, Town

Dirtmouth, the Fading Town, is the first town on the way to Hallownest, located in the valley between the Howling Cliffs and Crystal Peak.

Our town's fallen quiet you see. The other residents, they've all disappeared. Headed down that well, one by one, into the caverns below.

Fog Canyon

Fog Canyon is a small, foggy area situated between Greenpath and the Fungal Wastes.

The canyon below us, the one thick with fog and crackling with strange energy... a Hunter can lose their senses down there. Be careful... strange and unnatural things lurk there.

Forgotten Crossroads

The Forgotten Crossroads is an area below Dirtmouth. Its highways and caverns connect to many others areas in Hallownest.

Still winding your way through these beautiful highways? Just imagine how they must have looked during the kingdom's height, thick with traffic and bustling with life!

Fungal Wastes, Inner Wastes

The noxious caverns of the Fungal Wastes are covered in mushrooms of all kinds. Besides this, caustic pools of acid are abundant throughout the area.

My understanding of Hallownest can be a little vague, but below those leafy caverns is a fungal grove, once home to peaceful creatures not quite bug and not quite plant.

Godhome, Entrance

Godhome is an area that is located in the Dream Realm. Godhome's architecture generally consists of gold-coloured pillars and archways. It has clouds in the background and yellow-gold dreamcatchers fading in and out throughout the area.

By what right dost thou trespass here, in this home of the Gods? Shrivel away and begone! Begone!

Greenpath, Acid Lake

Greenpath is an area west of the Forgotten Crossroads with lush vegetation, guarded by a species of leafy bug. Adventure through exuberant green cavern, composed of diverse vegetation, mossy valleys, and broad lakes of acid.

The greater mind once dreamed of leaf and cast these caverns so. In every bush and every vine the mind of Unn reveals itself to us.

Hive, Entrance

The Hive is a large community of bees hidden away below Kingdom's Edge. Particular to the Hive are structures built out of brown and translucent honey-like materials. The architecture also follows a hexagonal shape reminiscent of honeycombs.

Though this hive exists within Hallownest, we play no part in its attempt at perpetuation.

The Howling Cliffs is a sparsely populated region in the northwest of Hallownest, separating the kingdom from a vast and unknown wasteland.

Enjoying the bracing air? We're quite close to Hallownest's borders and those desolate plains that surround it...

Kingdom's Edge, Wyrm's Shell

Hallow Knight Kingdom's Edge Image

The cliff range of Kingdom's Edge is characterised by its strong winds and ash that blankets the caverns. There is little vegetation except for large white roots that protrude from the walls and colourless plants that grow on numerous surfaces. The rest of the cavern walls consist of rocks and fossilised shells.

This ashen place is grave of Wyrm. Once told, it came to die. But what is death for that ancient being? More transformation methinks.
This failed kingdom is product of the being spawned from that event.

Queen's Gardens, Terrace

The Queen's Gardens is a lush area featuring ornate gates, thorns, and perilous platforms located in the west part of Hallownest. The Gardens are filled with overgrown vegetation, thorny vines, and neglected greenhouses.

Have you heard of Hallownest's Queen? Apparently these gardens were once her retreat... Now some vicious types are crawling all over the place and the plants have grown wild...

Resting Grounds, Graveyard

The Resting Grounds are a network of caverns filled with graves located above the City of Tears.
The Resting Grounds were a sacred place where bugs would come to conduct rituals for the dead.

The Resting Grounds... Passengers would come here to conduct rituals for those who had passed on...Not any more though. Perhaps the dead conduct their own rituals now?

The Last Stag

Royal Waterways, Entrance

Hallow Knight Royal Waterways Image
– Royal Waterways Image, click the image for an additional image.

The Royal Waterways are a series of sewage pipes and support structures underneath the City of Tears
The waterways' pipes were built to carry away the capital's waste. However, the incessant rain in the city above has washed the pipes clean.

Aren't these waterways thrilling? A labyrinth of pipes and tunnels... I couldn't have asked for a better place to employ my talents. It's all so orderly, so considered, nothing like the crude irregularity of those caverns...

White Palace, Exterior

Hallow Knight White Palace Image
– White Palace Image, click the image for an additional image.

The White Palace mainly consists of white and light grey architecture. The rooms contain large, tall windows which let in light from the outside. The palace is covered in white-grey leaves, roots, and ferns. Flying creatures can be seen flying away in certain areas. Besides these features, the palace is covered in buzz-saws, thorns, and spikes.

Have you visited the remnants of his palace? It's down below this city, in the bedrock of the kingdom. Must've been an impressive sight in its time. Now there's nothing left.
It's a strange thing though. There are no signs of conflict around the area. It's as though the whole place just vanished.
